About Gary Cox, Esq.

Along with Taaron Meikle and Sally Fallon Morell, Gary Cox is one of the co-founders of the Farm-to-Consumer Legal Defense Fund and is its first and only General Counsel. As lead attorney for FTCLDF, Gary represents farmers throughout the United States in their efforts to distribute their products directly to consumers free from governmental interference and harassment. Gary has sued the USDA, the FDA, and several States on behalf of Fund members. Gary served from 1989 to 2003 as Senior Assistant Attorney General in the Environmental Enforcement Section of the Ohio Attorney General’s office and prosecuted such Fortune 500 firms as General Motors, BP Chemical, Philips Electronics and Sun Oil Company for violations of state and federal environmental laws. As Senior Assistant Attorney General, Gary was lead counsel in hundreds of administrative, civil and criminal cases, in both state and federal courts, and conducted several oral arguments in both state and federal courts. Since entering private practice, Gary has been involved in raw milk issues throughout the country, has represented over 40 members of the Fund in all sorts of judicial and administrative proceedings, has provided testimony in support of food sovereignty legislation and has spoken at several conferences on sustainable farming issues. Gary lives in Columbus, Ohio, has a son and daughter, is an avid gardener and bicyclist, a former organic vegetable farmer, a supporter of local farmers, and consumes raw milk daily.
