It was only in the last part of the 1800’s and early 1900’s when big dairy with little sanitation and horrible conditions were formed that it became a problem. Small dairies as put forth in this exemption will not have those conditions; cows are well taken care of. In this country we should have the right to choose fresh vs. processed if we feel like it healthier for us.

Respectfully, you all need to butt out and let me live my life. Raw milk has been a healthy and wholesome food for millennia. My grandparents grew up on raw milk, and my mother also had it for a portion of her life as well. It truly is insanity to criminalize raw milk and farmers doing what farmers have done for millennia. The small farming community has been largely neglected due to our representatives and legislators being bought and influenced by Big Money from big corporations. This bill would allow a new source of income for small producers, it provides a new healthy whole food choice to consumers and reinforces our standing as a State who lives & breathes agriculture! Raw milk has so many health benefits it will behoove all citizens of this great state to allow sales, please listen to the people who know and understand the great value of HB325.

There is a fine line between accurate, just, and appropriate protection by the law and too much control that limits diversity and personal choices. Recently, Dairy Gold had to recall all 2% products because of the bacteria load and that milk is so processed that all the good things are cooked out of it. And saying that a cow gives ten gallons of milk a day is insane; if you find a cow that does better, put her in the world record books. I do not believe the government and state officials should be able to tell me I can’t drink raw milk any more than they can tell me I can’t eat a cheeseburger or have a cup of coffee or a chocolate bar for that matter. If you truly take the time to research raw milk and not listen to the nay Sayers you will see it’s not as bad as it’s being made out to be. Please let this bill pass

I don’t want chemicals, GMOs, hormones are any growth enhancers in my animals, because I don’t want them in my family and you are what you eat. Healthy and clean in, and you will be healthy. Really it is just simply “milk”, anything else is altered milk. I have lived most of my life in the great state of Montana, and one thing I have always been proud of is the freedoms we enjoy in this state. We have always been free to enjoy beautiful, wholesome living in its most natural form. My friends and neighbors are intelligent, responsible individuals who are more than capable of assessing how their food choices impact their lives. I appreciate the fair and just laws of the land, but the current ban on raw milk sales is an insult to Montanans. We deserve more respect than this. Please do the right thing and support HB 325 and promote a responsible, respectful society in our beautiful state. A vote against HB 325 is a vote of no confidence in the citizens of Montana. The freedom to buy and consume raw milk should be a fundamental God-given right as a natural outgrowth of the agricultural history that made this nation great.

I Have worked at two grade A dairies milking between 90 and 220 cows and every professional dairyman I’ve known, that sells milk to the big processors, consumes their own raw milk. In 38 years of milking and consuming raw milk, I have not personally known anyone who became sick from drinking raw milk. Raw milk doesn’t go bad like pasteurized milk, it just becomes something else like sour cream and cottage cheese. On the other hand, pasteurized milk has had all the good enzymes and bacteria killed; so, all that is apparently left is what makes it go bad and likely to make you ill. We moved to get away from the nanny state that endeavors to run peoples’ everyday lives and when we found out that natural things like raw milk are regulated up the wazoo exponentially more than the nanny states, I was absolutely incredulous! In Montana marijuana is legal but raw milk is not; and while government data lists many harmful effects of pot use, the legislators voting for the legalization of pot dismiss THAT government info and choose to believe the outdated government info on raw milk. The raw milk people are the little guys who want to provide healthy alternatives to their friends and families. Big business is trying to stop us from being free to choose.

Also it should be our right as individuals to choose for ourselves what we deem best for our health. There are many legal substances that are deemed much worse for our health; just look at the food choices in the supermarket that are making our nation fat, sick and unhealthy. Also as of right now, it is illegal to sell to someone for even animal use. People in Montana can’t even buy raw milk for their calves, goat kids, lambs, etc….so you have to raise them on fake powder and battle the diseases and sickness that creates!! This is an agricultural state and selling raw milk should be legal!!! Heck, so many other states allow it….even states such as Oregon!!! 3/31/2017-22:35:52-59101Passage of HB325 only makes sense for Montana. The right for us to eat fresh food if we choose is basic. The bill does not force anyone to drink it if they don’t want; but many people have great benefit from drinking raw milk and should have access to it if they choose.

I grew up on raw milk as well as my large family with no detrimental side effects and our dairy farm was larger and had more cows than this bill proposes. I also find it offensive that large corporate interests are weighing in as they feel threatened and only care about their bottom line. With consumers obtaining raw dairy products direct from the farm, there is a higher degree of transparency and traceability than there is with most foods. Please approve this Bill.

I own dairy goats, drink the milk, make cheese and yogurt. Under the current law I am not allowed to sell to even friends and family who so desperately want a healthier alternative to the ultrapasturized products offered in stores. When they have to add vitamins and white dyes back in to replace what they have destroyed….do you really think that is healthier?? I was raised on raw milk . Both grandparents as well as our family had milk cows. Our children also had goats milk when we had the milking goats before. Now I have a small herd that other than what I drink and use, I have to make soap with as it is the only commodity I can sell as income from my herd other than the livestock itself. When we bought several of our goats in WA, the dairy owner sells his raw milk at $19/ gallon and cannot keep up with demand! People know the value of the raw milk there as a highly nutritious food source for their families. I feel it is important for people to be able to choose their own food sources. Please pass this important bill

Raw milk is beneficial in many products such as soaps and cheeses as well as drinking in its natural form. Heating the milk oxidizes most of the vitamins and kills both good and bad bacteria. This greatly reduces the benefits of consuming milk. Many vitamins are fat soluble and therefore are no longer present in reduced fat milks the big dairy’s offer. Please vote yes on HB 325 to support small farmers and consumer demands for a raw milk option. People deserve the right to choose!

2/7/2017 – 19:52:23 – 59840People are always amazed when they find out that selling raw milk is illegal here in Montana. The most common response is an eye roll and snide remark. These comments come from both interested buyers and happy consumers of pasteurized milk. What I find interesting is that public opinion and our current law makers seem to be on two very different tracks with this issue. Aren’t they in office to represent us? Or have they decided that they know better than we and need to make our decisions for us? Sadly, it appears to be the latter. The issue of legalizing raw milk is not a safety issue, as many want us to think, but a control issue. I would like you to think about this for a minute. If they can keep milk illegal than what is next? Will it soon be illegal to buy eggs from your neighbor? Or fresh produce at the farmer’s market? Or that quarter of beef you buy every Fall from the rancher down the road? Or even start regulating yard sales? It is time our State Government start listening to Montanans. If you would like to be able to purchase raw milk support HB 325! And if you could care less about raw milk still support HB 325! Each small step that we take to take back our freedoms matter, for all of us.

Pasteurization kills all the natural vitamins in the milk so that synthetic vitamins have to be added back into the store product. Also the beneficial enzymes are destroyed by the heat. Homogenization changes the healthy fats in milk to small artery clogging fats and changes the proteins so that they become inflammatory to the body. I would not drink “store-bought” milk ever again as it is actually creates illness. Raw milk is one of the healthiest foods available. It also contains lactoferrin, an iron-binding protein which has anti-cancer, anti-viral and anti-microbial properties. Please allow direct sale of raw milk in Montana. Thank you

My father was raised on a farm and I was fortunate enough to also be raised on a farm. I am now farming here in Montana, which is “suppose” to be an agricultural state. Every single person in our generations was raised on fresh cows milk, all of us grew up to be extremely healthy, never sickly like people are now, not one time did we EVER experience any kind of food poisoning from drinking raw milk. I urge you to please vote for HB 325 and make it legal and “right” for Montana producers and consumers to have the personal right and option of buying and supplying a God given food source to those of us who do not want to feed commercial chemical and poison laden milk to our families. People who want raw milk know what they are asking for and accept responsibility for that choice; we don’t need “big brother politicians” telling us what we cannot eat. Montana is “wild west” RED state not a “nanny state.” Montana consumers who don’t care about what kind of chemical laden foods they put in their bodies are not stopped from making that choice, why should those of us who choose to eat healthy farm raised products be stopped from making that same choice? I have lived long enough to see what the centralization and industrialization of food production has done to our population. My paternal grandmother lived to be almost 100 years old and never had one ounce of industrialized food pass her lips. She drank raw milk everyday, ate vegetables and fruit from her own property and farm raised meats and she died of OLD AGE and not some dreaded disease that has flooded our population since food has been mass commercialized. I think it is time for Montana politicians to start paying attention to the voters and taxpayers of this state and what WE want, not what the lobbyist corporations want. If you want to worry about people getting sick from food (milk) why don’t you turn your attentions to the hundreds of people in Montana who are being infected daily by salmonella for corporate industrialized food.
2/10/2017 – 15:39:27 – 59741I urge you to support HB 325. I take offense at the criminalization of raw milk when there are so many things on our grocery store shelves that are so much worse for us. The health benefits are obvious to those who have regularly consumed it. I can destroy my body with sugar, alcohol and the wide array of untested food additives/replacements (not to mention prescription and over the counter medications), but I do not have the freedom to choose a wholesome food that has been consumed for thousands of years? Please allow reasonable people the freedom to choose raw milk.
