Giving Tuesday!

By Farm-to-Consumer | November 27, 2018

Giving Tuesday

During the next 24 hours, people around the world will come together to celebrate generosity and make an impact. Will you be one of them?

For more than a decade, Farm-to-Consumer Legal Defense Fund (FTCLDF) has served farmers and consumers at the forefront of the food freedom movement in America. We have made many gains, but there’s so much work still to do. We are grateful for the support you’ve given. Now we’re asking for your help to continue our critical work.

We defend food freedom. FTCLDF was founded on the simple principle that all Americans should be able to eat the food of their choice from the producers of their choice. We help members in so many ways, from releasing a member’s goat milk from an embargo, to helping a rancher member with sound legal advice, to protecting a consumer member’s right to their herd share, to lobbying for food rights legislation. We work tirelessly every day toward these goals.

We achieve demonstrable results. FTCLDF is often a farmer or rancher’s first line of support during a legal crisis. In 2018, we:

  • responded to more than 600 member inquiries ranging from consultation to litigation,
  • acted on more than 150 emergency hotline legal calls,
  • consulted on over 100 herd share agreements for our members,
  • provided over 2,000 hours of legal services directly attending to member needs, and
  • expanded and organized local legal counsel on the ground for in-person, direct farmer support.

We’re upping our game. While we’re proud of all we’ve accomplished for our members, we must do more. Over the next year, with your help, we plan to:

  1. provide more legal education to help our members navigate the laws in their states,
  2. host in-person trainings to empower our members’ legal literacy,
  3. hire additional staff to respond promptly to member consultations,
  4. expand our attorney network in all 50 states, and
  5. continue pushing for meaningful policy reform that supports the success of our members.

We need your help. Donations are the lifeblood of our work to support and defend our members. We want membership to be accessible for all farmers and to keep our membership fees as low as possible, so membership fees are only 10% of our operating budget. In order for FTCLDF to continue protecting, defending, and broadening the rights and viability of independent farmers, artisanal food producers, and their consumers, we need your financial support. Your contributions to FTCLDF go directly to helping secure the freedom of farmers and consumers to produce, sell, buy, and eat the nourishing foods of their choice. Please donate today. Your donation helps us fight for a food system that supports farmers, ranchers, artisan producers, and consumers, to ensure our right to decide what we eat, period.

Thank you.

FTCLDF is a true grassroots organization with the majority of funding coming from membership fees and individual donations. Any corporate funding comes from small, like-minded businesses. We would not have made it this far if it weren’t for those of you who: read and share our posts; like us on Facebook; follow us on Instagram and Twitter; donate funds, food, or time; host events for us; and join and renew your membership. We thank you for supporting our work and hope you will continue to do so in 2019 and throughout our second decade of protecting food choice.

YOUR FUND AT WORK
Services provided by FTCLDF go beyond legal representation for members in court cases.

Educational and policy work also provide an avenue for FTCLDF to build grassroots activism to create the most favorable regulatory climate possible. In addition to advising on bill language, FTCLDF supports favorable legislation via action alerts and social media outreach.

You can help FTCLDF by becoming a member or donating today.

Anyone wanting to make a contribution to support the work of FTCLDF can donate/find out more or join us today!
