Daufuskie Community Farm is a non-profit, volunteer-run farm supporting agriculture on Daufuskie Island through educational outreach, community events, hosting WWOOF volunteers, and serving as a sustainable example of a working farm.
The farm joined FTCLDF on a personal recommendation from Joel Salatin after a government avian influenza response resulted in the euthanization of hundreds of their birds without warning. As an entirely volunteer-run operation, the loss devastated community morale and forced the farm into a full quarantine shutdown.
“Joining this organization has given us peace of mind in knowing that in the case that something like that ever comes to light again, we will know where to turn and be supported,” said Iva Steffens, Volunteer General Manager.
