July’s Member Monday!

By Amelia Martin | July 3, 2023

The first Monday of each month is Member Monday where we feature member photos or a video on our Instagram and Facebook pages. Farm-to-Consumer Legal Defense Fund (FTCLDF) is proud of our members, and we take great pleasure in highlighting their operations and the awesome work they are conducting in sustainable farming, animal husbandry, artisanal production, and homesteading. See above for July’s member photos!

OwlTree Farm

Happy Member Monday!

Today we are featuring OwlTree Farm in Colorado!

OwlTree Farm was started by two old friends, Forrest Carlson and Brett Beardmore. The dream they had talked about since high school finally came true on February 15, 2020 when they signed a lease on a beautiful 10-acre property near Ft. Collins, Colorado. Their mission: to inform and educate the public through real-world applications of permaculture farm design, to develop a permanent base and working farm for demonstration, production and research, and to promote local production and food security, while maintaining business profitability.

Now entering their fourth year in operation, OwlTree Farm is quickly establishing itself as a go-to destination for fresh local produce and pastured poultry. Brett and his wife Sophie recently purchased the property that OwlTree Farm calls home, ushering a new era of stability and long-term possibilities for the business. Forrest and Brett use regenerative agriculture and permaculture to more closely mirror the natural ecosystem processes found in nature.

Using methods including no-till bio-intensive gardening, silvipasture, intensive rotational grazing, and food-forest orchard systems, they seek to protect and build the soil, conserve water and fuel resources, and produce a diverse selection of goods from a relatively small area of land. OwlTree Farm offers a CSA program, vegetables, pastured poultry, pasture-raised eggs, on-farm events, open houses, volunteer days, and workshops. They also offer shady and private campsites for short-term stays via Hipcamp.com.

“FTCLDF is an immeasurably valuable resource for small farmers like myself.” -Brett Beardmore, OwlTree Farm co-owner
