March’s Member Monday!

By Amelia Martin | March 6, 2023

The first Monday of each month is Member Monday where we feature member photos or a video on our Instagram and Facebook pages. Farm-to-Consumer Legal Defense Fund (FTCLDF) is proud of our members, and we take great pleasure in highlighting their operations and the awesome work they are conducting in sustainable farming, animal husbandry, artisanal production, and homesteading. See above for March’s member photos!

Ovis Aries Farm

Kelly Bell owns and operates Ovis Aries Farm in Mossyrock, Washington. She raises beautiful white and colored ARBA-registered (American Romney Breeders Association) Romney sheep, a kind of Shetland. Her primary focus is on the health and well-being of the sheep. She raises them with the same care they give their children. Ovis Aries Farm provides wool, breeding stock, and grassfed lamb.

The wool is glorious, soft, strong white and natural-colored for spinning, dyeing, fiber crafts and manufacturing applications. See more of her fine wool under the brand YARNSPOTTING (on Instagram, Facebook, Ravelry and Twitter). Plus Bell’s 25+ years of focused breeding has yielded a stunning range of colors from deepest black through all shades of silver-blue. Over the course of more than 25 years, Kelly has bred for the following qualities: health, hardiness, beautiful fleece, delicious meat, thriftiness, temperament, profligacy -1.7 avg, parasite resistance, easy birthing, and great mothering.

The grassfed lamb is certified Animal Welfare Approved, healthful, delicious, gourmet-quality and available by advance reserve every fall. It lacks the somewhat bitter and “soapy” taste many Americans find unacceptable in most lamb available at the grocery store. All sheep are born, raised, and finished on the farm.
