GE (genetically engineered) or GM (genetically modified) seeds, feeds, foods, etc. contain, or were created using, genetically modified organisms (GMO). Currently, neither the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) nor the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) require labeling of GMOs; so, whether derived from GMOs or containing ingredients derived from GMOs, the public is left uninformed about many products currently on the market.
More evidence is coming to light that GMOs are unsafe. Monsanto, the leading company in manufacturing GE seeds, markets not only an herbicide Round-Up which contains glyphosate but also “Round-Up Ready” seeds that actually require the use of the herbicide to grow. Most of the corn and soybeans grown in the U.S. are now GMO, likewise, so are the ingredients derived from them (e.g., oils, high fructose corn syrup, soy lecithin). Such ingredients are found in many, if not most, processed foods.

GE Labeling Receives Public Hearing in Normal – June 20th
On June 20th, Illinois Senators are coming to the public to learn whether they should make labeling genetically engineered (GE) foods the law.
Illinois State University
All hands needed on deck to show support for GE labeling!
This is our chance to tell Illinois lawmakers that we demand our right to know what’s in our food!
If you believe you have the right to know what you are eating and feeding your family, join concerned citizens, farmers, grocers, gardeners, mothers and people who eat.
Guests of honor will be the Illinois Senate members who will decide the fate of GE labeling in Illinois, Dave Koehler, Linda Holmes, Michael Frerichs, and Sam McCann.
Pro-labeling will be represented by a panel of expert witnesses, but we need your help to pack the room with supporters to show our lawmakers that Illinois voters demand the right to know what we’re eating.
THIS is our opportunity to show Illinois lawmakers that we demand to know what’s hidden in our food. Bring your friends and farmers!

Kathryne Pirtle attended the 2013 Health Freedom Congress as a representative of the Weston A. Price Foundation, where leaders in Health Freedom throughout the country all worked on focusing their energies together to formulate where to direct a major thrust. Regardless of the participants different missions and focus, it was decided that the GMO issue is most important right now!
We listened to the compelling presentation of Jeff Smith, author of Seeds of Deception and Genetic Roulette. He stated that GMOs, if not brought down, will have a disastrous effect on generations to come. They are part of the root cause of many of our worst health epidemics–infertility, digestive disorders, inflammation, brain disorders, Autism, asthma, ADD, ADHD and mental health conditions. GMOs will be responsible for permanent serious changes in the genetic makeup of humans on planet earth if not curtailed. We have NO time to waste.
He explained that we have finally gained incredible momentum on the GMO issue because of all the groundwork that has been done for the last 17 years. With all the recent attention on GMOs, there has been a huge momentum and the tipping point has nearly been accomplished. We have seen in just the LAST MONTH–the worldwide march–Millions Against Monsanto–along with the tainted wheat issue and the thrust that many states are winning for GMO labeling.
Jeff Smith explained that as we are bringing down the GMO market in the grocery stores–where more and more people are choosing “Non GMO Product Verified“–major commercial food companies will in turn start sourcing for Non GMO–because if they don’t, their profits will go down! This will signify the beginning of the end!
The next step will be to change the market for animal feed as people will also demand this.
We at the Health Freedom Congress agreed unanimously that if we can focus on bringing down Monsanto through our continued MASSIVE exposure and activism surrounding this issue–we will be able to accomplish all of our other issues on health freedom as well!!
Because of this, we in Illinois have got to show numbers at our Public Hearing on June 20 in Bloomington as we did for the hearing about raw milk.
Please send out an action alert to all of your lists ASAP about the hearing.
Together–WE make it happen!!

The biotechnology industry spent over half a billion dollars in lobbying and campaign contributions between 1999 and 2009 to ensure that regulatory oversight of GE foods remain watered down, GE foods remain unlabeled, and consumers are kept in the dark.
GE foods can pose risks to consumers from potential allergens and toxins, but those are not currently disclosed to consumers. But just as labels list fat, sodium and sugar, they should tell the buyer whether or not the product includes potentially harmful GE ingredients.
Polls show that a vast majority of consumers want food containing GE ingredients to be labeled, but most large food companies will continue to ignore consumers’ demands that GE foods be labeled until they are held accountable by law.
We all deserve the right to know what’s in our food and to decide whether or not to consume or purchase GE foods.
