Food Safety - S.510 & HR 2749
CLOSED: Petition to Reject S.510 now H.R. 2751
Beware of legislation that takes a “one-size-fits-all” approach to ensuring food safety. The industrial food system in which the producer is far removed from the final consumer should be regulated, especially international imports. The complexity of the interstate distribution chain justifies the need for governmental monitoring. Food from local, sustainable farms supplied direct to consumers and to the local food movement, such as at farmers’ markets, does not require the same scrutiny by an intermediary agency. In fact, small sustainable family farms and the ‘local food movement” are part of the solution to food safety threats and traceability in the event of a foodborne illness outbreak.

Raw Milk Freedom - HR 778
It is legal in all fifty states to consume raw milk and raw milk products; however, many states have outlawed the sale of raw milk or impose such onerous burdens on producers that the supply of raw dairy products is severely limited. Legislation that promotes consumer access to raw milk and raw milk products supports consumers’ freedom of choice to consume the foods of their choice from the sources of their choice.
