Missouri House Bill 866 (HB 866) "specifies that residents have the right to sell directly to a buyer or purchase directly from a seller any farm-direct goods produced within the state without being subject to any state or local regulation." 

 

HB 866 will be heard before the House Professional Registration and Licensing Committee at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 17.

  • House Bill 866 would boost the rural economy.
  • It should be a consumer right to choose from whom they buy their food.
  • Locally produced food has a good track record for safety, whether it's regulated or not.
  • There's transparency and traceability with direct transactions.
  • Consumers should have the opportunity to know the producer(s) of their food.
  • There is an added sense of responsibility when the farmer knows who is consuming the food produced on the farm.
  • The bill would improve food security by encouraging local food production and increasing the self-sufficiency for the community.
